Passive House Tour 2019

PH Tour 2019 – Heidelberg, Germany

For some of us the Heidelberg 2019 Educational PH Tour started with the international PH conference in Heidelberg Most of us enjoyed the exceptional tour through the new development, built according to the Passive House standard in Bahnstadt, Heidelberg. Who wouldn’t like to go to a daycare or school with the most comfortable design and environment. Visiting the BUGA, national garden show, in symbiosis of garden and city exhibition with CLT multi storey buildings and the Bionic Pavilion made out of wood. MPA University of Stuttgart, National Material Testing Facility was another unusual highlight as well as World of Living Weber Haus, one of the most advanced and biggest prefabrication manufacturer in Europe and so much more. Not to mention all the great cultural and social experiences we had. Thank you to everyone of you for making it unforgettable.

A great opportunity to establish connections

“I had the pleasure of joining my second PH Tour this year, (2019 in Heidelberg and 2023 Wiesbaden) and Tomaz and Jasminka never fail to host an incredible week. Each tour has included a variety of stops ranging from building material manufacturers, prefab housing builders all the way to job site tours and wood science universities. They really cover all the bases when it comes to a educational tour on passive housing and prefab. These trips have also provided for a great opportunity to establish connections with other tour members in the construction industry, creating a great network to bounce ideas off of.”

The tour inspired me to think about design options

“I attended a passive house tour in 2018. We started in Munich, headed into Austria and Northern Italy before returning back to Munich. We visited manufactures developing new cradle to grave building systems, massive Cross-Laminated-Timber manufactures, assembly line interior finish manufactures, and existing passive buildings. We topped it off with visits to nearby heritage sites (including staying a night in a castle built in the 12th century!). The systems, products and assemblies being developed in Europe are exciting and the tour inspired me to think about design options that are not common in Canada. The backdrop and location also helped to cement the experience into memory. I recommend, that you attend a tour if you want to learn about cutting edge energy efficient and sustainably design.”

There is so much more to learn

“An organized PH Tour with Tomaz and Jasminka is always a delightful experience. From the choice of hotels and the place to visit, we were able to immerse ourselves in the local culture while enjoying a nice evening with the group eating delicious food. From the tour we were able to learn and see for ourselves the many uses and applications of wood. Timber and CLT is at the core of all quality work, may it be prefab homes or windows. Research and development also had a special place during the tour, the future of wood engineering looks very promising. The people we met were all passionate and proud of the work they do, as well as very welcoming. The tour ended at Poing in Munich, where we could explore a large show home exhibit referred as the “Trail of Innovative Ideas”. The latest technologies were assembled in one place and we could really see what energy efficiency, future living, sustainable and smart building were all about. Since many visions are required to understand what it means “to live in the comfort of our own homes”: There is so much more to learn. Thanks again for a wonderful tour.”

Each tour provides a wealth of knowledge and inspiration

“Having experienced three Passive Haus tours with Stich Consulting & Design Inc, including the recent Passive House Tour Wiesbaden 2023, I can confidently say that it has had a transformative impact on our business. It is often said that the future is already here but not evenly distributed, and the construction industry in Germany exemplifies this notion, being ahead of North America by at least 20 years. Each tour provides a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, thanks to the industry professionals’ eagerness to share their expertise. The people, places, and cuisine on these tours are all truly fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend these invaluable experiences to others.”

Great people, great food, great conversations

“I had an amazing time on the Passive Haus tour in Wiesbaden, 2023 with Stich Consulting. Each stop we made was incredible and inspiring. Each company we visited had so much to show and each and every one welcomed us so kindly.
The overall trip was very well planned. Each day comprised of 2 or 3 stops, with a bit of driving in-between. We even had time for some cultural stops and visits along the way. Every accommodation was very nice and clean. All the diner reservations were absolutely delicious. I had an amazing time! Great people, great food, great conversations, great education and great memories. I would 100% recommend this to anyone interested in Passive Haus, high-performance building, off-site prefabrication or innovative construction.”
